This destination is a spring time favorite due to its native flora, such as the notro, chilcos, and lupines known as “chochos”. From Coyhaique, the capital of the Aysén region, to the town of La Junta, via the Northern Carretera Austral, also known as the “Scenic Route of Patagonia”, it’s a 266 km journey on a winding paved road with some gravel sections. We recommend allowing at least 6 days to travel this route as you will encounter exceptional places and have diverse experiences immersed in lush evergreen forests, imposing mountains, glaciers, fjords, channels, rivers, and lakes. Queulat National Park, the Hanging Glacier, hot springs, and the local culture characterized by a mix of chilotes, gauchos, and Germans are must-see attractions of this destination.
The Carretera Austral is meant to be explored at a different pace. You need time to discover all its hidden corners. We plan your trip based on landscapes and experiences, where kilometers are just a reference point.
Choose your experiences, and we will tailor your trip to fit your family or group of friends. We recommend a minimum of 6 days to truly immerse yourself in the Patagonian experience. The best option is to extend the program to 10 days or more, so you don’t miss out on the Southern Carretera Austral or other destinations.
