In this section, the Southern Carretera Austral, known as the “Scenic Route of Patagonia” continues as a gravel road and crosses incomparable attractions. It runs alongside General Carrera Lake until reaching the hanging bridge that marks the drainage of its waters towards Lake Bertrand and Plomo, eventually forming Chile’s most voluminous river, the Baker River. It is an ideal spot for rafting or a day of recreational fishing, surrounded by Coigüe forests and the turquoise color of the crystal-clear waters. The confluence of the Baker and Neff rivers is a must-see, where you can witness the power and vibrant colors of nature. In this destination, the transition of the landscape, from intense greens to the colors characteristic of the Patagonian steppe, inspires artistic souls to create a poem, drawing, or painting.
Cochrane, the main service center, offers endless alternatives to immerse yourself in gaucho culture and outdoor experiences. Patagonia National Park, part of the “Route of Parks,” has become the main attraction, with special moments during the trip such as spotting guanacos in the Chacabuco sector and the possibility of seeing huemuls in the Tamango sector.
The Carretera Austral is meant to be explored at a different pace. You need time to discover all its hidden corners. We plan your trip based on landscapes and experiences, where kilometers are just a reference point.
Choose your experiences, and we will tailor your trip to fit your family or group of friends. We recommend a minimum of 6 days to truly immerse yourself in the Patagonian experience. The best option is to extend the program to 10 days or more, so you don’t miss out on the Southern Carretera Austral or other destinations.
